How to compare your existing NDIS policies before rewriting them

Rewriting policies from scratch is expensive and risky. A better approach is to preserve what already works, identify what is missing and make every change reviewable.

Create an inventory first

List each current file, its owner, last review date and the service or process it covers. Filenames are not enough—capture the purpose and the teams that use it.

Match each file to one destination

Use the policy title, headings and content—not just the filename—to match an existing file to the right controlled document. Where no match exists, keep it as a custom document rather than forcing it into the wrong slot.

Review the change record

A useful comparison separates content retained from the source, additions required for compliance and questions that need an organisation-specific answer. Keep the original snapshot so the decision can be revisited.

Approve deliberately

The migrated version is a working draft until a manager reviews ownership, scope, local details and related documents. Only then should it move through review and approval.
